Marty began serving others and his Country as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy.  During his Navy career, he provided medical and emergency care to sailors and their families. After his honorable service, he transitioned into the public safety sector as a police officer for Smithfield Police Department, then later as a trooper for North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

He most recently owned a risk management company that provided consulting and risk management services.  He retired from the public sector in late 2022 in order to provide full-time support to the first responder community.

Marty has served first responders in Isle of Wight County since 2015 when he joined the ranks of Isle of Wight Sherrif's office as their full-time chaplain. He has provided guidance, counseling, and support to countless deputies and dispatchers in this role. Marty has been called to serve the caregivers though his role as Chaplain.

Marty's unwavering support of the Sherrif's office extends to all branches of public safety and first responders in Isle of Wight. His experience as Chaplain in the County makes him a natural fit as an important part the Isle of Wight Peer Support team. He provides listening, love and understanding to anyone that needs help.
