Will Drewery

William “Will” Drewery is the Emergency Management Coordinator for Isle of Wight County. Will was born and raised in Franklin and now lives in Sedley. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security from Columbia Southern University and is currently working towards a master’s degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness at the Virginia Commonwealth University. Will is also credentialed by the Virginia Emergency Management Association and Virginia Department of Emergency Management as a Professional Emergency Manager (PEM).

Will began his career of public service volunteering with Franklin Fire & Rescue in High School. A third-generation firefighter, Will earned his initial certifications in firefighting and emergency medical services before graduating high school. Upon graduation, he worked as a 911 Communications Officer with the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office before going on to become the Senior Fire Communications Officer/Training Officer for the City of Richmond. He eventually returned to the area to work for Isle of Wight County's Emergency Communications Center as an Emergency Communications Center Supervisor. 

Will served as Captain of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department from 2016-2021. In addition to his operational roles, Will also sat on the department’s executive committee as the treasurer overseeing all financial aspects of the department’s operation.

Will has made a lasting impact on the County’s ability to prepare for and respond to emergencies. He has been instrumental in providing guidance and support for the peer support team, and is passionate about providing help to his fellow first responders when they need it the most.
